John Collier was commissioned by the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts to create an 8' x 10' bas-relief depicting St. Ignatius Loyola writing his spiritual exercises at his cave in Månresa, Spain.  
 
He composed his exercises intending to help retreat participants discern the will of God in their lives.
